Ivan Tcherezov: I was afraid myself of my agility. Translated by Oleva Alisa from the Web site of Russian newspaper Soviet Sport You can hear various legends about Ostersund, which is situated not far away from Arctic Circle, and its “wizard lake” (according to the legend there lives some sort of fantastic monster). Maybe that’s why ski venue, which is located here, also has its own specific. It definitely sympathizes with Ivan Tcherezov. Both bronze medals in his career in World Cups Ivan, biathlete from Izhevsk, has won right here. That’s why first question was pretty obvious. — Ivan, do you like this venue so much or maybe the air in Sweden is special? — Honestly saying, I can’t find the right explanation. Lot’s of people have mentioned that I have good results in Ostersund. Although if you remember my first bronze a year ago (in Mass Start) I won it after 31st and 19th places in Sprint and Pursuit. This year the result in Sprint was more solid. — It could have been even more solid unless you had left two targets unharmed in the standing stance. — That’s true. To be honest I even was afraid myself of my agility. When after first 1,5 km I was told that my intermediate time is the best and that I`m almost three seconds ahead of my closest follower and after first shooting session there was again information that I show the best time I started being nervous. I imagined that when I reach second shooting I will have extremely strong pulse. Every coach will tell you that with such fears it’s impossible to fight for the victory… My two misses in the standing stance confirmed truthfulness of this statement. — For most of the spectators it seemed that you had started Pursuit too quickly. On the second lap you even passed Bjoerndalen… — Oh, don’t remind me. I stepped on his ski pole. After first shooting session I was right behind him. After we slithered from a small hill and started turning I stepped on his ski pole with my ski. Norwegian had to stop to pick it up and that’s why he fell out from the leaders of the race for a long period of time. — Anyway that was Bjoerndalen who won the race. By the way didn’t he make a claim that you disturbed him on the track? — No. Right after the end of the race I approached him and apologized. We smiled each other and the incident was over.
